En{danger}ed

A poster design marketing the Hall of African Mammals at Los Angeles County’s Natural History Museum.

I used an x-acto knife to make cuts in thick paper, then bent out the cut-out shapes to make them 3D. I used side lighting to create shadows across the paper and photographed the two pieces of the poster, editing them together using photoshop. Printed on art paper to be an a-typical poster.

The idea behind the project was to highlight Africa’s Rothschild’s giraffe, one of the most threatened giraffe species in the world in danger of extinction. Africa’s abundant wildlife is a trademark of the diverse continent, and many visitors travel to Africa especially to see the day-to-day movements of the animals. But being popular can come at a price and many of these creatures have fallen prey to poaching activities, and other kinds of human interference.
